The Nine Stones
near
Winterbourne Abbas
A small stone circle
constructed about 4,000 years ago. The circle and nearby barrows may have
flanked a prehistoric trackway now followed by the modern road. The circle may
have been used for secular and religious ceremonies.
'it is a very peaceful setting even
if it is near a very busy road, it also has a tendency to be a little spooky
standing in the middle of the stones with the great big oak that so dominates
the setting'
