Hand Crane
A hand crane
stood near this point and was to used to load Portland stone blocks onto
the Old Merchants Railway. From 1826 to 1939 horse-drawn trucks took the
stone from here around Verne Hill down to Castletown Pier for shipping
to create some of the world's finest buildings.
