Nottington Spa House
Over
the next two centuries the fame of the water grew and people came from far and
wide to seek cures, including George III and his Queen, who came
here in June 1791. As the crowds grew there was increasing demand for a proper
Spa House, thus in 1830 this house was built over the Spring and at a banquet
to celebrate the occasion the owner claimed that he has as his object the
benefit of the community far more than any pecuniary consideration. The house
is unusual in being octagonal.
It has been claimed that the owner had seven
sons and built them all a room and one for himself and it is said that in the
dining room there was an octagonal table. ¹
