After Lawrence of Arabia retired from the Royal Air Force at the age of 46, he settled in a cottage called Clouds Hill. Tragedy hit only a few months later, when riding his motorcycle, Lawrence crested a hill and met two boys on bicycles. Swerving to miss them, he crashed, fractured his skull, and died.
