Portland Harbour
2 of 3
The harbour
breakwaters were constructed in the 20th century by the convicts of the
Verne. Now the area is important for wildlife, sailing and other water
sports and now that the Olympics will come to England in 2012,
the waters will see world class sailing. Upon the shores of the harbour are the
two Tudor strongholds Sandsfoot Castle and Portland Castle.
