St Nicholas Church
Abbotsbury
St Nicholas was the parish
church built alongside the great Abbey Church, the foundations which are
still partly visible in the churchyard. There is a stone effigy of one of the
early abbots in the porch. St Nicholas was occupied by the
Royalists in a fierce engagemment during the Civil War.
Parliamentarian musket ball holes can still be seen in the jacobean
pulpit.
